“Maggie’s father was county sheriff, and a good one. He was putting the heat on the gang’s operations. The murders were Vance’s retaliation against that,” Amos explained.

“What about Fisher, the gang member?”

“John saw it happen. The guy wanted to go back into the house and save Maggie from the fire. Skinner shot him in the back for it.”
